These coins are official legal tender - 90% pure silver circulation dime currency coins that were minted by the US Mint when real silver was still used in the coinage. The dime got it's name due to the Phrygia cap that Lady Liberty is depicted wearing which originally was meant to represent freedom, however many at the time said it gave Lady Liberty the likeness of the Roman god Mercury.
