Pearl Harbor, a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m., hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, destroying or damaging 20 American naval vessels.

The U.S.S. Arizona Memorial commemorates all 2403 people who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
