Product details

Traditionally, motifs on a coin have raised relief. However, where the design is described as incused, it is pressed into the surface of the blank. This popular design trend makes its appearance for the just second time on a prestigious Australian Kookaburra 5oz silver coin in 2022.

Australian icon

Introduced in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is an enduringly popular silver coin series portraying annual artistry of one of our most recognisable birds. Famed for its raucous laughing call, the beady-eyed kookaburra is heard across the nation – from the outback to the back yard.

Incused Kookaburra design

The coin portrays an incused impression of a kookaburra perched on an ornamental bird bath among Agapanthus, flowering plants regularly seen in Australian gardens. Also included in the design is The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.

Key features:

  • Incused kookaburra design
  • 99.99% pure silver
  • Australian legal tender

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst one of the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
