Pièce 1/25 once d'or Castor de 50 centimes 2014

This intriguing gold coin features a design inspired by the 5-cent circulation nickel designed by G.E. Kruger Gray in 1937 that is still in use today.

The design has been adapted for this small surface with as few changes as possible.

The reverse of the coin features a beaver sitting on a mound of dirt and twigs in the middle of a pond and the words "50 Cents Canada 2014" and the artists initials.

The design looks virtually identical to the circulation nickel, except of course for the denomination and the absence of the maple leafs on either side of it.

The obverse features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina".

The only real difference between this and the nickel is the absence of the Royal Canadian Mint Logo present on more recent releases of the nickel.

This coin celebrates both Canada's iconic fauna and the history of one of its most recognized coins.

It comes in a maroon clamshell case with a serialized certificate and is minted with 9999 pure gold.

Since it is limited to a mintage of just 7,500 worldwide it won't be around for long.
