William Shakespeare is considered the greatest English-language writer, and his works have been translated into almost every language spoken on Earth. Even today, his plays are highly popular, and are studied and re-interpreted. The genius of Shakespeare's writing is that his characters transcend their era and present us with a wide range of emotions and personal conflicts that have always been a part of human nature. It has been said that Shakespeare is "not of an age, but for all time".

This proof silver coin comes in a package that appears to be an antique book. A colour portrait of William Shakespeare set within an engraved frame is on the front cover of the case. The book opens to show the coin inset into the body of the book. The certificate of authenticity is printed on the inside of the front cover along with a brief biography of Shakespeare.

The obverse of this coin is split in half. The left side has the Ian Rank-Broadly effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, while the right side features a portrait of William Shakespeare set within a frame.

Sur le revers apparaissent en relief quatre des personnages les plus connus de Shakespeare - le Roi Lear, Roméo, Juliette et Hamlet.
