The 2023 Somalian Elephant Silver Coin depicts a curious elephant eating leaves from the acacia tree commonly found in the Somalian landscape. The elephant represents both the burdens faced in everyday life along with the strength and knowledge of the people. Most commonly, the elephant symbolizes the chief, in charge of settling arguments and differences within a collective, as the creature with the most wisdom and patience in the animal kingdom.

The reverse of the Somalian Elephant Silver Coin displays a different design every year, but always shows the elephant either on its own or in a herd with a stunning background of the Somalian vistas with grasslands and sunsets or sunrises. Due to a new edition being released every year, collectors are able to distinguish between the coins and the year each was created.

The obverse consistently depicts the Somalian coat of arms which includes a shield with a star in the center supported by two leopards, the official national animal of Somalia, standing on two spears. The year of production surrounds the coat of arms along with "Somali Republic" written above.

The Elephant Collection is part of the African Wildlife series that celebrates the African bush elephant. The collection started in 1999 with coins initially minted for Zambia. The first Somalian Elephant gold coin was released in 2004.
