As Disney’s third-ever animated film, Fantasia is a timeless classic that will endure throughout history. First released in 1940, Fantasia was groundbreaking for its exceptional animation and productional value. The movie also served as the introduction of a redesigned Micky Mouse to the big screen and in colour, which raised the popularity of the lovable animated character, exponentially. To this day, Mickey Mouse is universally hailed as one of the most celebrated and most beloved animated characters of all time. The Island of Niue in conjunction with the New Zealand Mint celebrates the animated giant with the release of this 1 oz 999 fine silver coin.

Depicted on the reverse is the iconic character of Mickey Mouse as Fantasia with his pointed star-filled hat and his finger pointed upwards. The wizardry and wonder are shown as Micky whirls matter into existence, with the point of his finger with his contagious smile. The weight and purity are also held on the reverse side.

Held on the obverse is the contemporary effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by engraver Ian Rank Broadley. The nation of issue and her Majesty’s title serve as the legend, while the denominational value and year of issue also encapsulate the bust.
