Own a piece of history with the addition of a 1908 NM $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle MS-63 Gold Coin from our online store, at the lowest price!

The year 1907 proved to be a pivotal moment in the history of both the Double Eagle of the United States Mint in addition to the world of bullion coins. At the request of President Theodore Roosevelt, the highest legal tendered coin, “The Double Eagle” was to be redesigned in more striking detail. Hence, famed sculptor and designer, Augustus Saint Gaudens was tasked with adding an element of beauty to the $20 face value coin and improving on the previous design of James B. Longacre. St. Gaudens delivered by producing, what is considered by many to be the most beautiful bullion coins ever struck in US history.

Most reputable numismatic grading organizations use the internationally recognized Sheldon grading scale, which ranges from 1 to 70 to grade coin conditions. The MS-63 (which stands for Mint State with a 63 grade) is one of the highest scores a coin may achieve. It’s alternatively referred to as Choice Uncirculated.

The reverse side displays Lady Liberty, the American rendition of the Roman Goddess, Libertas the human embodiment of Liberty. Lady Liberty bears a torch symbolic of enlightenment in her right hand, and an olive branch, symbolic of peace in her left. “Liberty” is displayed above, as the legend, while expert engraving enhances the patriotism by etching the white house, as lines indicative of the sun feature in the background. Lady Liberty is encircled by 47 stars, indicative of the states that populated the nation at the time.

On the obverse, the quintessential symbol of America, the bald eagle is depicted in mid-flight, as the sun rises below in the coin’s field. Although 1908 is the year that the coin incorporated the National motto “In God we Trust,” on the obverse side, the decision was initiated after a portion of coins were already minted, meaning that some 1908 Double Eagles did not include the motto. The coin that you will receive does not include the motto hence the designation NM.

The Saint Gaudens Eagle Double Eagle is distinguished among bullion coins due to its gold content and history. Your purchase has the unique element of being one of the last minted coins without the national motto included on the obverse. Additionally, to the coins, MS-63 designation substantially increases the numismatic value of your investment in addition to the high gold content. Demand for this coin is sure to be high, so don’t hesitate, to purchase a 1908 NM $20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle MS-63 Gold Coin today
