This stunning 2 oz gold coin depicts the world's most famous marsupial, the kangaroo near a eucalyptus and grass trees, in a new artistic interpretation of Australia's first bullion coin series.

The national animal of Australia, the kangaroo, is revered for its unique look, incredible leaping ability and speed- they can leap up to 30 meters in a single bound, at 48 kilometres an hour, and size-growing up to 1.8 meters tall. The intriguing marsupial serves as an excellent feature for the Perth Mint’s marquee annual bullion release.

A marsupial is a mammal whose newborns are carried around in their mothers' pouch early in life.

The coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

Known as the Australian Golden nugget until 1989, the series retained the concept of having a dynamic and evolving reverse side design, adding collectability to the golden range of Kangaroos. Since then, the highly popular gold coin has gone on to gain international notoriety adorning the largest bullion coin ever made, at the time in 2014, one tonne Kangaroo had a face value of 1 million Australian Dollars!

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990.
