Born in Chicago in 1901, Walt Disney worked first as a commercial artist before he set up a small studio in Los Angeles to produce animated cartoons. In 1928 the short film "Steamboat Willie", starring Mickey Mouse, became a national sensation. Disney himself provided the voice for Mickey in the first animated film to use sound. Since then Mickey Mouse has become a childhood icon and along with his friends has earned a place in the hearts of the world.
