This beautiful coin from the New Zealand Mint features colourized images of our favourite Disney cartoons surrounded by presents, a decorated tree and an engraved "Seasons Greetings" that is both inviting and beautiful. Born in Chicago in 1901, Walt Disney worked first as a commercial artist before he set up a small studio in Los Angeles to produce animated cartoons. In 1928 the short film "Steamboat Willie", starring Mickey Mouse, became a national sensation. Disney himself provided the voice for Mickey in the first animated film to use sound. Since then Mickey Mouse has become a childhood icon and along with his friends has earned a place in the hearts of the world.

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II NIUE 2014 1 Dollar" and the artist's initials.

The reverse features some of Disney's greatest creations in a warm, classic setting. Evoking all the joy of the holiday season, the brightly coloured rendition of these famous characters is a perfect decoration for any Christmas tree. The words "Season's Greetings" are engraved in the elegant font that early cartoons are famous for and large snowflakes lend a snow laden tranquility that is hard to resist. The words "1/2 oz 999 Fine Silver Disney" complete the design.
