This private issue features a variation of the obverse design eventually adopted by the U.S. Mint for the Type II (w/Motto) Liberty double eagle in 1866. On the obverse of this piece, the motto above the eagle reads OUR TRUST IS IN GOD and the denomination at the lower border is expressed as DOUBLE EAGLE. Longacre's "signature" is present in the field between the eagle's tail and the denomination.
