These coins were minted as a tribute to John Wayne aka "The Duke", one of the acclaimed masterminds of the Western genre of movies.

These silver coins are made from 9999 fine silver and feature a coloured photo-like figure of John Wayne riding a horse in his typical cowboy attire. The coin's background features the engraving of saguaros, which are cacti typically found in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. The actor's initials "JW" (also his official logo) in a western-style font are engraved beside the actor's figure along with the inspiring words "Tomorrow Hopes We Have Learned Something From Yesterday" arched on around the edge of these beautiful silver pieces.

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970.
