The obverse of each coin features both an Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and a relief of Ilanaaq, the mascot for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the Olympic logo. The coins each have 0.225 ounces of gold, for a total weight of 2.025 troy ounces for the set.

This set of colourized gold coins was the first ever released by the Royal Canadian Mint. The coins feature a wide variety of Canadian and British Columbia exclusive themes, all enhanced with the selective use of colour.
