The Liberty Gold Eagle was introduced in 1838 as part of the Coinage Act 1834. It was designed by Christian Gobrecht, the Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time. The U.S. Mint minted these coins between 1839 and 1908 and was widely circulated until the government confiscated gold in 1933.
