The First Special Service Force or Devil's brigade was a revolutionary task force that was the foundation for modern special forces units. The 1st Special forces command (Airborne) and The Canadian Special Operations Unit (CSOR), Joint Task Force-2, and The United States Navy SEALs, all owe the founding to the Devil's Brigade.
The elite unit operated beyond the bounds of conventional warfare. It was tasked with penetrating enemy lines by sea, land or air, and executing surgical strikes, such as sabotage missions against strategic posts such as electrical plants and oil fields. The courageous men of the Devil's brigade were called to action immediately, is expected to begin parachuting within 48 hours of arrival to basic training. The training culminated in a devastatingly effective unit that carried out several strategical missions during World War II and contributed to allied victory.
Held on the Reverse side is the legendary shoulder patch of the 1st special service force, which was earned by recruits upon successful completion of parachute, and basic training. The symbol is indicative of the Unity, might, and the relationship between the United States and Canada and is accentuated with the inclusion of the star of America and the Maple leaf of Canada. The image is encapsulated by the metal type, purity, and denominational value.
The Royal Canadian Mint is known as one of the most reputable mints in the world. The Ottawa Branch of the Royal Mint opened in 1908 and was renamed The Royal Canadian Mint in 1931 when control was transferred to the Canadian government.
