The origins of Diwali stem from the Indian subcontinent and began as celebrations of harvest festivals, which merged to create this 5-day long festival of lights that celebrates the Hindu gods Rama, Lakshmi and Krishna, among others. Although it originated in Hinduism, this holiday is celebrated by Jains and Sikhs, as it marks important events in their religions. The days of celebration change every year but typically occur between mid-October and early November. Each day of the festival is notable for its reason, with the third day being the most significant as it specifically celebrates Lakshmi Puja.
