Besides the famous and iconic image of the prospector panning for gold, it includes inscriptions that read "THE AMERICAN PROSPECTOR," "U.S.A." AND 2025. The round's reverse design features the Engelhard name along with its weight and gold purity. Engelhard, a respected precious metals refiner, operated from 1902 to 2006, producing high-quality gold bars and rounds. The company ceased operations in 2006 after being acquired by BASF, a German-based chemical company, ending the production of Engelhard's bullion products.
